GE 5KS254DAE6055 - GE's Ultra™ TEFC VSS NT (Vertical Solid Shaft Normal Thrust) Motors are designed for premium efficiency and severe-duty applications. These motors are NEMA Premium Efficiency rated, NEMA Design B, and approved by UL and CSA for component and insulation system recognition. They are suitable for altitudes up to 3300 ft and can handle an ambient temperature of 40ºC. These motors feature special balance for reduced vibration, double-bearing protection with shaft slingers, and a cast iron construction. They have a conduit box and are designed for normal thrust applications. The insulation class is H, and they have inverter capabilities for variable frequency drives. These motors come with bidirectional integral lifting posts, a stainless steel nameplate, and a space heater.

Features
The Wolong GE Ultra™ TEFC VSS NT motor is a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) Severe Duty design engineered for premium efficiency and long-lasting reliability in vertical solid-shaft, normal-thrust applications. It delivers consistent performance under demanding industrial conditions where protection from dust, moisture, and contaminants is essential.
This motor features a horsepower range from 3 to 75 HP with 2 or 4 poles, and operates on 230/460 V, 460 V, or 575 V systems. It is designed for 60 Hz operation and is suitable for 50 Hz and 190/380 V use at a 1.0 service factor. The unit meets NEMA Design B characteristics, ensuring dependable torque and startup performance.
Built for severe-duty service, the Ultra™ TEFC VSS NT includes UL Component and Insulation System Recognition and CSA certification for motors. It is rated for ambient temperatures up to 40 °C and altitudes up to 3300 ft. The rotor assembly is precision-balanced to 0.075 IPS for low vibration and smooth operation.
The mechanical design includes a cast-iron frame, end shields, and conduit box, ensuring superior durability and rigidity. SAE-type fasteners and a stainless-steel nameplate provide strength and corrosion resistance. The bearing system features shaft slingers on both ends for added protection, achieving an IP55 protection rating against dust and water ingress. Bearings are normal-thrust type with Polyrex EM grease lubrication, and relubrication fittings are included for maintenance. The motor frame includes both a frame ground bolt and a brass bolt within the conduit box for secure grounding.
The Ultra™ TEFC VSS NT uses a Class H insulation system (GEGard 2400) that is non-hygroscopic and anti-fungal, designed to meet NEMA MG1-31 standards for reliable operation on variable frequency drives (VFDs). It supports variable torque operation from 0 to 60 Hz at 1.0 service factor, with full inverter compatibility.
Additional standard features include integral bidirectional lifting posts, vertical P-base mounting, and a buff epoxyester paint finish for protection in harsh environments. The rotor is cast aluminum, the top hat is cast iron steel, and the shaft dimensions comply with API 610 12th Edition standards. The motor also includes a 115-volt, 60 Hz space heater to prevent moisture buildup during idle periods.
Each unit is built for continuous duty operation, with a temperature rise of 80 °C at 1.0 service factor, and undergoes NEMA routine testing to verify performance and reliability.
The service factor is 1.15, providing additional power capacity under overload conditions.
The Ultra™ TEFC VSS NT motor is backed by a comprehensive warranty of 36 months from installation or 42 months from manufacture, whichever comes first, ensuring lasting confidence and performance.
