Cartoning

Cartoning is the process of forming, loading, and closing cartons for packaging of finished goods. It is a common application found in a packaging line where a package is being closed and ready for shipping or display. It is an application used in various industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, personal care, and industrial.

Cartoners typically form and close cartons on the same machine and can insert or place the product in a vertical or horizontal position depending on the application, package design, or product being packaged. Cartoners are a more efficient and cost-effective packaging machine where labor costs can be minimized while maximizing throughput.

Industrial cartoners are an important component on the packaging line because they not only enclose the product, but also the packaging is prepared for distribution to ship, store, stack and protect the goods during transport. Cartoners are usually placed towards the end of the packaging line and are often used in conjunction with case packers and/or palletizers. Applications can be primary or secondary packaging and can be integrated with fillers, wrappers, and labelers. They are built to perform under continuous operation with high repeatable closing reliability and quick carton changeovers.
