Unistrut is a well-known manufacturer of strut channel. Strut channel is a standardized structural system used in electrical and construction industries for light structural support. It is formed by folding over a piece of sheet metal into an open channel shape with inward-curving lips, which provide a location to mount interconnecting components. Strut channel can have holes in the base for fastening to the underside of structures.

A typical strut channel forms a 1 5/8” by 1 5/8” box and is made from either 12 gauge or 14 gauge sheet metal. The lip of the strut channel is used to mount special braces, connecting angles or nuts to join lengths of strut channel together or to connect wire, pipes or other structures to the strut channel system. Objects can be attached to the strut channel with a channel nut, spring nut or bolt. Circular objects such as cables or pipes can be attached with straps.

Strut channel systems can be easily assembled and modified to fit many applications. They can be used to create a permanent structure to support wiring around a building or they can be used to support different types of machinery and wires for temporary projects. Strut channel systems are often used for air conditioning and heat ventilation systems as a way to suspend the wiring from the roof or ceiling.

What is DIN Rail and and Wire Duct for Control Panels
