Phoenix Contact Omni Antennas

The omni antennas provided by Phoenix Contact are built to offer true 360-degree coverage in the demanding world of industrial and automation networks. These antennas are built to the same exacting standards that characterize Phoenix Contact’s entire line of industrial communication devices. They are rugged and are usually mounted where they are exposed to the elements and all sorts of fluctuations in temperature.

Phoenix Contact omni antennas provide a robust and dependable signal that is perfect for large, intricate setups where wireless devices, gateways, and control panels need to communicate reliably and are expected to work without interference or dead zones. These antennas are nearly as good in signal quality as the best straightforward antennas, but they are vastly superior in terms of deployment, maintenance, and adjustments.

FAQs

What are Phoenix Contact omni antennas used for?

Phoenix Contact omni antennas are designed for 360-degree wireless coverage in industrial and automation applications such as SCADA systems, telemetry networks, and wireless communication between control panels and field devices.

What frequency ranges do Phoenix Contact omni antennas support?

They are available in several frequency ranges, including 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5 GHz, making them compatible with Phoenix Contact radios, WLAN, Bluetooth, and other industrial wireless systems.

What gain levels are available for Phoenix Contact omni antennas?

Most Phoenix Contact omni antennas provide gain levels between 3 dBi and 8 dBi, offering a balance between wide coverage and reliable signal strength in industrial environments.

Are Phoenix Contact omni antennas compatible with non-Phoenix Contact equipment?

Yes. As long as the antenna’s frequency range, impedance, and connector type match the device, these antennas can be used with radios, modems, and access points from other manufacturers.

Are Phoenix Contact omni antennas weatherproof?

Yes. These antennas are built with durable, corrosion-resistant materials such as fiberglass and aluminum, often featuring IP-rated weatherproof housings for outdoor and harsh-environment use.

Antennas: Omni vs Yagi

Omni Antennas can pick-up signals coming from all directions. They are most commonly used for signal reception over a large area where the potential location of any incoming signal's transmitter varies. Therefore, unlike Yagi antennas, Omni antennas do not need to be pointed in a particular direction. Each specific antenna has a gain rating or dBi (decibel isotropic) number which coincides with the performance of the antenna. The higher the dBi rating, the larger area covered.

Advantages and Disadvantages

• Easy setup and install

• Can send and receive signals from multiple locations with just one antenna

• Limited on the distance it can communicate

• Not a great option from areas with poor signal strength
