GE 5KE254DAE6020 - GE's XSD Ultra® 841 Vertical C-Face Normal Thrust Motors are designed for extra severe-duty applications with NEMA frame sizes ranging from 143 to 365 and 2, 4, or 6 poles. These motors have UL and CSA approvals, including recognition for components and insulation systems. They comply with industry specifications like IEEE 841 and IEEE 45 Marine Duty. The warranty lasts for 60 months from installation or 66 months from manufacture, with a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C and altitude of 3300 feet. They feature insulation class H, inverter capability for variable torque, and NEMA Premium efficiency for motors in the 1-300 HP range. The frame material is cast iron, and they have features like Neoprene rubber gaskets, cast iron fan covers, and stainless steel nameplates. The Wolong GE XSD Ultra 841 Vertical C-Face NT motor is a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) Extra Severe Duty (IP56) design built for high-performance vertical applications where corrosion resistance, reliability, and long service life are essential. It meets IEEE 841 and IEEE 45 Marine Duty standards, making it suitable for both industrial and marine environments.
This motor covers a NEMA frame range from 143 to 365 and is available in 2-, 4-, and 6-pole configurations. The 2-pole models range from 1 to 75 HP, the 4-pole models from 1 to 75 HP, and the 6-pole models from 1.5 to 50 HP. It operates on 460 volts or 2300/4000 volts, providing flexibility for various applications. The shaft extension varies by design: 2-pole models use 143–286T and 284–365TS frames, while 4- and 6-pole models use 4P: 143–365T and 6P: 182–326T frame types.
The XSD Ultra 841 Vertical C-Face NT motor is approved by UL for component and insulation system recognition and CSA for certification and efficiency verification. It is built to NEMA Design B characteristics and is rated for ambient temperatures up to 40°C and altitudes up to 3300 feet.
Each motor is equipped with Class H insulation and a non-hygroscopic, anti-fungal, polyester resin trickle-treated winding system, tested to exceed NEMA MG1 Part 31 standards. The motor is inverter capable, suitable for variable torque INF:1 operation, ensuring compatibility with variable frequency drives (VFDs). Efficiency levels meet or exceed NEMA Premium requirements for ratings up to 300 HP, fully compliant with IEEE 841 efficiency standards.
The motor has a service factor of 1.15, with a winding temperature rise of 80°C at 1.0 service factor and 50°C bearing housing rise for 2-pole models and 45°C for 4- and 6-pole models, as specified by IEEE 841. It carries a CSA Division 2 T3 (200°C) temperature code certification, making it suitable for hazardous duty environments.
The mechanical design uses a cast iron frame, cast iron end shields, and a cast iron or fabricated steel conduit box. All joints are sealed with neoprene rubber gaskets, and the frame/end shield seals ensure IP56 environmental protection. The conduit box is rotatable in 90-degree increments with NPT threaded holes for easy conduit connection.
The fan system is designed for safety and durability. 2-pole models include bi-directional, non-sparking plastic fans (with a unidirectional aluminum fan on 449 frame sizes), while 4- and 6-pole models use bi-directional, non-sparking plastic fans. The fan cover is cast iron, adding structural protection. The sound power level is controlled to approximately 90 dBA, with minor exceptions for high-end frame sizes.
Each motor includes four cast-in lifting lugs for safe handling and mounting holes per NEMA standards. It is configured for W6 mounting, shaft down, with a C-face flange, providing ease of installation in vertical systems.
The bearing system is designed per IEEE 841 standards for long life and easy maintenance. Bearings are single-shield ball bearings with an L10 life of 50,000 hours under direct-coupled operation. Bearings are lubricated with Polyurea grease and can be re-lubricated through grease fittings and plugs that extend through the fan cover. The design includes provisions for conversion to oil mist lubrication, offering flexibility for specialized installations. Bearings are protected by non-contact rotating labyrinth seals on both ends, and cast iron gasketed bearing caps provide additional protection from contaminants.
Additional mechanical features include hex head zinc-plated fasteners for corrosion resistance, stainless steel T-drains at the lowest point of both end shields for moisture removal, and cast-in vibration pads for repeatable vibration measurements. The motor meets ISO 1940 Grade 1 balance standards, with ball bearing vibration levels of 0.040 inches per second peak.
Each unit features a 316 stainless steel nameplate for durability and long-term legibility, and it is finished with epoxy ester paint in RAL 1001 for superior corrosion protection.
Testing is performed to NEMA routine standards, and all motors are designed for continuous duty (S1) operation.
