A wire ferrule is a metal tube that can be placed over the top of a normal stranded wire, and is crimped into place so that the strands of wire are secured and can't come loose.
Top Five Reasons to Use Ferrules:
1. Ferrules can increase the overall safety of your wiring.
2. Ferrules can provide much more consistency than traditional wiring methods.
3. They provide a safe and clean method for combining multiple wires together for a single connection point.
4. With the wide variety of ferrules available, they are very versatile and can meet the needs of most applications.
5. Ferrules increase the overall quality of the work you provide.

[0m:4s] Hi I'm Josh Bloom, welcome to another video in the RSP Supply education series. If you find that these videos are helpful to you, it certainly helps us out if you could give us a big thumbs up and subscribe to our channel.
[0m:15s] In today's video we want to talk to you about a wiring accessory that can make a huge difference in the quality of your wiring and can also reduce potential issues you might encounter when terminating wires. I'm talking about ferrules used for stranded wire.
[0m:32s] A wire ferrule is a metal tube that can be placed over the top of a normal stranded wire that is crimped into place so that the strands of wire are secured and can't come loose.
[0m:44s] It is also common to see some form of insulation at the base of the wire ferrule to protect against any exposed wire that might not fully be seated inside of the two portion of the ferrule.
[0m:58s] Today, I want to talk to you about the top five reasons why you should use ferrules for your specific wiring application. So let's get to it.
[1m:7s] Number one using ferrules can make your wire terminations much safer. When terminating stranded wire, you run the risk of having your wire fray or bird cage, which can lead to short circuits or potential shock hazards at your termination points.
[1m:23s] By using ferrules on the wire, you eliminate any possibility of this fraying that might occur.
[1m:30s] By crimping and securing the strands of wire, it creates a very safe way to terminate wires without the worry of creating an unsafe and potentially hazardous work environment. So use ferrules when you want to increase the safety in your wiring.
[1m:46s] Number two by using ferrules and your wiring, you create a much more consistent connection point. It can sometimes be difficult to get consistent results when stripping wire by hand, even when using tools that are designed to do so.
[2m:1s] One big advantage to using ferrules is that you have a very consistent connection point on all of your wires. It also can give you a consistent look for each of your wires as well. When a panel or any electrical system is wired using ferrules you can be confident that all your termination points are the same and will provide the same great result, reducing any chances of failure at the various termination points throughout your system.
[2m:28s] Number three,
[2m:29s] when the right kind of ferrule is used that can create a safe and clean wiring option when two different wires need to be terminated into one single point.
[2m:40s] It is not uncommon to see situations where two separate conductors needs to be terminated at one location and share a terminal.
[2m:49s] When using stranded wire, this can be very difficult and can increase the risk of the wire fraying or bird caging, which can be very hazardous, as we have already discussed.
[3m:0s] By using specialty ferrules that are designed to combine two separate conductors, you reduce any chance of this frame and create a very solid connection point that will last well, into the future.
[3m:13s] Number four, ferrules come in all shapes and sizes to meet almost any application you might encounter. This versatility allows you to use ferrules on very small wires that might be needed for more intricate control work, as well as much larger wire that might be used to distribute or switch high amounts of power in say, MCCs or other more heavy duty applications. So in almost all cases, ferrules can be used to increase the safety and functionality of your wiring.
[3m:45s] Number five, lastly, by using ferrules, you greatly increase the overall quality of the work that you are providing. While ferrules can increase the overall cost of your job, the quality and consistency of the work you provide can far outweigh that cost in most cases. They can also greatly reduce the chance of having to come back at a later date to fix troubled connections and your wiring.
[4m:10s] This quality can provide great value to your clients and should always be considered in the many different wiring applications that you may encounter.
[4m:18s] So, lastly let's quickly recap: number one, ferrules can increase the overall safety of your wiring. Number two, ferrules can provide much more consistency than traditional wiring methods. Number three, they provide a safe clean method for combining multiple wires together for a single connection point. Number four, with the wide variety of ferrules available they are very versatile and can meet almost all needs and applications you might encounter. And lastly, number five, ferrules increase the overall quality of the work that you provide. For a full line of ferrules and thousands of other products, please go to a website.
