Enclosure Gasket Kits
Enclosure doors may need to be replaced from time to time and it is important to order the correct replacement door that matches the existing enclosure so that the NEMA rating is maintained. When additional security is needed, replacement doors may also include padlocking handles. Enclosure door latches, handles and locks play a big part in enclosure security and safety. In many applications, the value of the equipment housed in the enclosure is significant enough to justify the cost of additional security features. Also, any unauthorized or accidental operation of a control system could have severe consequences. To better secure enclosure doors, there are key locking door latches and key locking wing knobs, as well as, handles that have padlocks, key locks and combinations locks.
Gaskets are used to provide a leak-tight seal between two surfaces, such as an enclosure and its doors and accessories. In many outdoor and indoor applications, a gasket is critical to the protection of sensitive electrical equipment inside the enclosure. Gaskets are primarily used to exclude the external environment from entering an enclosure, such as water, dust and dirt. They can also be used to contain noise or other forms of interference generated from internal components.

More Information about Enclosure Gasket Kits
Hoffman Gasket Kits replace damaged and worn foam-in-place or strip enclosure gaskets. They can replace current gaskets as well as provide a solution to upgrade enclosure gaskets for harsh applications. They are available in either silicone or EPDM material and the different sizes are suitable for use on either wall mount or large enclosures.
Maintaining NEMA 4 Rating When Making Enclosure Penetrations
Cutouts are very common when modifying enclosures for push buttons, indication lights, conduit entries or mounting hardware. Cutting into an enclosure runs the risk of eliminating the protective nature of the NEMA rated attributes. Proper steps must be followed in order to preserve the NEMA rating of an enclosure.
Devices mounted to the enclosure must have the same NEMA rating as the enclosure. This means that if the devices are installed to the manufacturer's specifications, they will be able to maintain the NEMA rating of the enclosure.
Water tight conduit hubs must be used when running wire through a cutout in an enclosure. There are many different types of conduit hubs that are used to secure conduit to an enclosure. However, only certain conduit hubs are rated for a watertight seal. By using water tight hubs, the NEMA rating of the enclosure is maintained.
Bonded washers are necessary when mounting hardware to an enclosure. If standard mounting hardware is used, the NEMA rating of the enclosure will no longer be maintained. Bonded washers have rubber gaskets that make a watertight seal around the drilled hole. It is also important to make sure the material used for the bonded washer matches the material of the enclosure. Stainless steel enclosures require stainless steel bonded washers.
