Modicon Backplanes

Schneider Electric PLC Processors are programmable automation controllers that function as the core of the customizable PLC built with processors, I/O modules, backplanes, power supplies, and optional networking. This modular approach allows for expansion and flexibility in the design of logic controllers and automation controllers for industrial control systems. Modicon has two PAC processor series: M340 PAC and M580 ePAC.

Schneider Electric Modicon M340 Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) are modular PLC processor components for small to medium industrial control systems. Modicon M340 PACs are programmed using EcoStruxure Control Expert (formerly known as Unity Pro) software, have a USB port for programming and HMI, and have two additional ports that can be used for Ethernet, CANopen and Modbus. Modicon M340 PACs can be used individually or as an ideal companion to the Modicon M580.

Schneider Electric Modicon M580 Ethernet Programmable Automation Controllers (ePACs) are modular PLC processor components for medium to large industrial control systems. Modicon M580 ePACs feature redundant controllers and safety controllers with native Ethernet, and have cybersecurity embedded in its core. The process or safety processors both use the same Modicon X80 I/O modules platform and Ecostruxure Control Expert software for programming and configuration.

Schneider Electric Modicon Backplanes are available in 4, 6, 8 or 12 slot for Modicon M340 and M580 PLCs. One slot is for Power Supply and 4 slots are for single width modules and CPUs. Modicon X-bus Backplane Extension Modules are designed to interconnect two or more backplanes.
