The Wolong GE XSD Ultra 841 VSS motor is a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) Extra Severe Duty design built specifically for vertical solid shaft inline pump and high-thrust applications. It combines mechanical strength, electrical reliability, and advanced protection features to meet IEEE 841 requirements for extra severe duty performance.

This motor delivers premium efficiency across a horsepower range of 3 to 400 HP, available in 2- or 4-pole configurations, and operates at 460 V or 575 V. It is designed for 60 Hz operation (de-rated at 50 Hz and noted on the nameplate). Each motor meets NEMA Design B torque characteristics, providing dependable performance in demanding pump and high-thrust environments.

The XSD Ultra 841 VSS is approved under UL Component and Insulation System Recognition and CSA certification for motors, ensuring compliance with North American safety and quality standards. It is suitable for installation up to 3300 ft altitude and at ambient temperatures up to 40°C. Balance and vibration are tightly controlled, with a maximum vibration level of 0.075 in/sec, ensuring quiet and stable operation.

The mechanical construction is fully engineered for harsh conditions. The frame, end shields, and conduit box are made from cast iron, while SAE Grade 5 fasteners add strength and durability. The conduit box is gasketed and rotatable in 90° increments, and includes both a frame ground and a ground lug for safety. The bearing caps are cast iron and sealed, offering maximum protection. The motor’s bearing system uses non-contact rotating labyrinth seals to achieve an IP55 protection rating—on both ends for frames 182–286, and on the drive end for frames 324–445.

The bearing configuration includes deep groove ball bearings for guide bearings and double-row angular contact bearings for thrust bearings, designed to deliver an L10 bearing life of 50,000 hours under direct-coupled conditions. Bearings are lubricated with Polyurea grease for frames 182–286 and oil for the upper thrust bearings in frames 324–445. Relubrication fittings are provided for maintenance.

Additional mechanical features include four lifting lugs cast into the frame, a vertical P-base mounting design, and mounting holes per NEMA standards. The fan is made of non-sparking plastic or bronze, with a cast iron fan cover for extra protection. A stainless steel T-drain is included for effective moisture control, while the shaft dimensions comply with API 610 12th Edition standards.

The electrical system is designed for reliability under demanding conditions. The motor uses Class H insulation with the GEGARD2400 insulation system, providing non-hygroscopic and anti-fungal protection. This insulation withstands 2400 volts at 0.1 microsecond rise time and exceeds NEMA MG1-31 standards for variable frequency drive (VFD) operation. The motor is inverter duty rated, suitable for PWM (pulse width modulation) operation, and supports INF:1 variable torque applications.

The rotor is made of cast aluminum for consistent performance, while the top hat and other major components are cast iron for added strength. The motor is finished in a buff epoxyester paint for corrosion protection, and each unit includes a 316 stainless steel nameplate for durability and clarity.

The XSD Ultra 841 VSS has a service factor of 1.15, an 80°C temperature rise at full load (1.0 SF), and is rated for continuous duty operation. Every unit undergoes NEMA routine testing to ensure conformity and performance reliability.

All XSD Ultra 841 VSS motors are stamped with a Division 2 Temperature Code, featuring an Auto Ignition Temperature (AIT) of 200°C on the nameplate for hazardous area safety compliance.

Finally, each motor is backed by a comprehensive warranty of 36 months from the date of installation or 42 months from the date of manufacture, whichever occurs first, ensuring long-term dependability and peace of mind.
